Further Recruitment information
Our client is a 16 year old young man who has recently begun a new college course, enjoys socialising with friends and family, cooking, playing golf and going to the gym.

Our client sustained a Brain Injury in a road traffic accident at a young age, which resulted in specific cognitive and executive function difficulties. In association with this he also has some hearing loss and mild visual impairment. He attends a mainstream further education college where he studies for a full-time catering qualification. He is an extremely personable and friendly young man, but can experience anxiety in social situations, and is not always able to understand more complex social cues, making him vulnerable to others. You will need to be friendly, energetic and adaptive, with an ability to be proactive and resourceful. Well-developed communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to take an active role in the multidisciplinary team, helping our client to achieve his goals and showing sensitivity to the family setting.

Your role as a Buddy is to enable our client to achieve every aspect of daily living and to enjoy a full range of independent leisure activities, just like any other 16-year-old. You will need to be dynamic and creative, finding innovative ways to help motivate and encourage our client to engage with activities (including completing college assignments and attending therapy sessions) and maximise his independence skills. You will be responsible for the planning and organisation of a full timetable of leisure activities, in collaboration with our client and his family. You will work on targets focused on increasing our client’s social confidence, and be sensitive to his differing needs in a range of different social situations. Full training will be available, and you will be offered regular guidance and supervision by a Senior Clinical Psychologist.

We are hoping to recruit a psychology or similarly skilled graduate, or experienced Carer /Support Worker with experience of working with people with Brain Injury and /or Learning Disability to provide a long-term commitment of at least one year, commencing in October 2012. Average hours will be 20 per week, to be applied flexibly throughout the week and for one day each weekend. There may be additional hours available during the Summer holiday period, with the possibility of accompanying our client on short trips away. You will be working independently with our client within his family home, and will undergo a full induction period under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

Hourly rate of pay is: Monday to Sunday £14 per hour. Mileage paid at 36 pence per mile

Hours of work: 3 x 3 hours during weekday afternoon/evenings (approximately 4pm to 7pm), one full week day (9am to 5pm) and one full day on alternate weekends (either Sat or Sun).

If you are successful in being invited to interview, you will be expected to provide satisfactory evidence of your entitlement to work in the UK, together with photographic ID. Posts offered are subject to two excellent verbal and written references and successful CRB checks and enhanced disclosure.
