Title: Therapist – Multisystemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behaviour
Employer: Brandon Centre
Description: Brandon Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy for Young People

The Brandon Centre, Kentish Town
Agenda for Change Band 8a

The Brandon Centre was founded in 1968 and is a charitable organisation providing psychotherapy, contraception and sexual health services for young people aged 12 – 21 years old. The Centre also offers Multisystemic Therapy Standard for families of young people who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to severe antisocial behaviour, and parent training for parents with a teenager whose behaviour is challenging.

The Centre has been funded by the Department of Health and Youth Justice Board to develop a pilot programme in Multisystemic Therapy for young people presenting with Problem Sexual Behaviour (MST-PSB).

We are looking for a practitioner with significant experience in working therapeutically with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviour. You will have a post-graduate degree in psychology, social work, counselling or an equivalent professional qualification. Individuals with a related undergraduate degree and significant clinical experience will be considered.

You will have a good understanding of other professionals’ theoretical perspectives. You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills, to be able to remain calm and have the ability to diffuse difficult and sometimes volatile situations.

The MST-PSB therapist will provide intensive, in-home counselling, support and crisis intervention to young people presenting with problem sexual behaviours and their families. The post holder is also expected to work with MST Standard cases.

Fieldwork comprises a majority of the therapist’s time, but additional administrative requirements and supervision are an equally important component of the position. Full training in the MST-PSB treatment model and ongoing training in family and behavioural approaches will be provided as well as consultation with MST-PSB in the USA.
