The Directorate of Personnel Capability (Science) provides human science expertise (e. g. conducting psychological research, providing professional advice and consultancy and sharing best practice) in the following areas: Human Factors, Personnel Selection and Assessment, Performance Appraisal and Career Development, Training, Employee Relations and Motivation, and Organisational Development and Change. It comprises a team of nine psychologists. Recent projects have included: design and validation of a selection process for specialist posts in the Army, assessment of human factors issues in safety critical operational roles, and the measurement of attitudes and behaviours of military personnel. The scope of projects undertaken provides an excellent opportunity for progression towards Occupational Psychology Chartership. While the work is mainly in support of Army personnel projects, there is also a requirement to work with the Navy and the Royal Air Force. There are also opportunities to participate in international research collaboration (e.g. working with defence psychologists from Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand and other NATO countries).
The applicant must have a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited honours degree in psychology and have been awarded Graduate Basis for Chartership. They will hold a BPS accredited MSc with a minimum of 2 years relevant postgraduate experience.
